Part B of our Privacy and Cookies Notice.
1. What this covers
Cookies are small files placed on your device by a website. This policy also covers similar technologies — pixels, tags, local storage and software development kits — which do comparable things. We refer to all of them as cookies.
This policy explains what we use, why, and how you control it. It sits alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains what we do with personal information more generally.
2. Your choice comes first
2.1We do not place any cookie on your device beyond those strictly necessary to make the website work until you have told us you are happy for us to. You will see a banner the first time you visit.
2.2Saying no is as easy as saying yes. There is a reject-all option on the first screen of the banner, not buried behind a settings menu.
2.3You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
2.4The rules here come from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 and the UK GDPR. Strictly necessary cookies do not need your consent; everything else does.
3. What we use
Strictly necessary — always on
These make the website work. Without them, pages will not load properly, you cannot stay logged in, and you cannot complete a booking. They do not track you and cannot be switched off.
| Purpose | Set by | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Keeping you logged in and maintaining your session | doctor.uk | Session |
| Remembering your cookie choices | doctor.uk | 12 months |
| Security, load balancing and fraud prevention | doctor.uk, Cloudflare | Session to 12 months |
| Processing your payment securely | Stripe | Session |
| Keeping your place in the health assessment | doctor.uk | Session |
Functional — only with your consent
These remember your preferences so the site is easier to use. Turning them off will not break anything, but some things will not be remembered.
| Purpose | Set by | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Remembering preferences such as language or display settings | doctor.uk | 12 months |
| Live chat and support tools outside the health assessment | doctor.uk | 12 months |
Analytics — only with your consent
These tell us how people find and use the site so we can improve it — which pages are read, where people get stuck, what does not work on a phone.
| Purpose | Set by | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Understanding how the site is used | Google Analytics 4 | Up to 14 months |
| Measuring which campaigns bring people to the site | Google Analytics 4 | Up to 14 months |
Advertising — only with your consent
These let us show you relevant advertising elsewhere on the internet and measure whether our advertising works. They are set by advertising companies who may use them to build a profile of your interests.
| Purpose | Set by | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Showing relevant advertising on other websites and apps | Google Ads, Meta | Up to 13 months |
| Measuring advertising performance | Google Ads, Meta | Up to 13 months |
A current list of every cookie in each category, with its name and provider, is available through the cookie settings link in the footer, and is kept up to date automatically.
4. No tracking in the health assessment
4.1From the moment you begin the health assessment, no analytics or advertising cookies operate. Only the strictly necessary cookies that keep your place in the form are used.
4.2This applies even if you have consented to analytics and advertising elsewhere on the site. Your consent does not extend into the assessment, and we do not treat it as if it did.
4.3Nothing you enter in the assessment — your answers, your height and weight, your eligibility, your medicine or your dose — is sent to any analytics or advertising company, in any form. Nor is any of it used to decide what advertising you see.
4.4We check this rather than assert it. The assessment is scanned automatically every week for any unauthorised tracking, and independently tested at least once a year.
5. Cookies set by other companies
Some cookies are set by companies other than us — analytics and advertising providers, and our payment provider. We choose who those are, and they only operate where you have consented, but they are governed by their own privacy policies as well as ours. The current list, with links, is in the cookie settings panel.
We do not allow any third-party cookie to operate on the health assessment.
6. Controlling cookies yourself
- Use the cookie settings link in the footer of any page to change your choices on this site.
- Your browser also lets you block or delete cookies. Every major browser has a privacy or security settings section that explains how.
- Blocking strictly necessary cookies in your browser will stop parts of the site working, including booking and payment.
- Deleting your cookies will also delete your record of choices here, so you will see the banner again.
- Most browsers offer a Do Not Track setting. There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to it, so we do not rely on it — use our cookie settings instead, which we do act on.
7. Changes and contact
We update this policy when what we use changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we introduce a new category of cookie we will ask for your consent again.
Questions about cookies: hello@doctor.uk. Questions about your clinical information go to your Treating Provider — see the provider details panel on your documents. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
